Café de Mentia – January 12th 2015

The first Café de Mentia of 2015 will be held on Monday 12th January in St Marys Day Care Centre, Lenihans Lane, Lower Bearforst, Mallow, 7.30 – 9. Olivia Wall, senior occupational therapist will be speaking on ‘Falls, trips, stumbles – what to do?’ All are welcome and refreshments will be provided.
Singing for the brain

This is a pilot six week singing group. No singing experience or talent is necessary and we hope it will be a fun and sociable experience. Information and Support Sessions – October to December 2014

The Crystal Project facilitated a six week block of information and support sessions for families affected by dementia from 30th October to 4th December. Topics covered included an overview of dementia, communication, safety at home, nutrition, personal care, occupation and legal issues. Café de Mentia met monthly between September and December. On Monday 8th September Pauline Mc Sweeney, HSE Speech and Language Therapist spoke about communicating with people with dementia. Children’s Morning

The Crystal Project hosted a Children’s Morning on Saturday 4th October. This was for primary school children who have a relative with dementia. Memory Group

A six week memory group was facilitated by The Crystal Project in September / October 2014 and was attended by 12 people. Topics covered included how memory works, memory strategies, memory aids, keeping mentally and socially active, stress management and mindfulness. Public Information Evening

The Crystal Project hosted an information evening on Wednesday 17th September in Firgrove Hotel, Mitchelstown. Amy Murphy spoke about dementia services in North Cork.
