Information and Support Sessions

If you are interested in learning more about dementia, you can attend a six week information and support programme.
Topics covered include an overview of dementia, communication, safety at home, nutrition, personal care, occupation and legal issues. These sessions also provide you with the opportunity to meet other families in a supportive environment.
These sessions run from 7-9 pm, one evening a week for six weeks.  They are held twice a year in various locations in North Cork. For information on when the next programme is being held, contact the service.

Singing for the Brain

You can also attend ‘Singing for the Brain’, a weekly group for anyone who enjoys singing. This group has been running since January 2015 and is facilitated by Fiona Falvin, the talented musician. Each week we do warm up activities, sing well known pieces followed by a sing along where anyone can lead us in their favorite song. Tea and coffee are provided at this really sociable group. No talent or experience are necessary attend and this is an opportunity for you and your relative to do something fun together.

Singing for the Brain is held every Thursday afternoon in Mallow Primary Healthcare Centre.
Singing for the Brain is also held in Fermoy and Mitchelstown. For more information, contact the service.

Dementia Cafes

You can attend our monthly Dementia Cafes, held in The Culturlann, Newmarket and in Adair Hall, Fermoy. We have different speakers at each cafe and refreshments are provided. They are a warm, social gathering and all are welcome. See our newsfeed for the latest cafe information.

Counselling Service

We offer a subsidised counselling service, provided by a registered psychotherapist. These sessions aim to provide participants with a safe place to express the range of emotions that may be experienced when caring for a relative with dementia. The therapist will work with you to help you find the best way of coping with these emotions and support you to deal with situations that may be beyond your control.
Sessions are typically held on a weekly basis for six weeks in person, via Zoom or over the phone.
For further information, contact the service.
