North Cork Dementia Alliance is delighted to bring you our 2023 ‘It’s not just dementia’ calendar. It was produced due the popularity of the 2015 and 2016 calendars. Nationally commended for its quality, it was shortlisted for the Irish Healthcare Awards Best Patient Education Project in 2016.
Described by a geriatrician as ‘moving but with practical and helpful advice’, this calendar explores why a person with dementia may become agitated, withdrawn or behave in a way that is out of character. It aims to challenge the belief that changes in a person are ‘just dementia’ and to explore what the individual may be experiencing and communicating through their actions.
Each month, a potential reason for such changes are presented and tips for supporting the person are provided.
It made me stop and look at the viewpoint of my relative – Family carer
The calendar highlighted issues that we as GPs may not think about or may be afraid to address – GP
The information on each page added humanity to the diagnosis – Priest
I now think of the person rather than the disease – Active retirement attendee

Handy tip!
Punch two holes at the top of the calendar and use two treasury tags to bind and hang it.
